NEWSLETTER - 10 September 2026
This week we had our tamariki attend the Eden-Albert Choir Festival Rehearsal at Auckland Normal Intermediate School. It is wonderful to see them practising outside of school and listening to other schools sing for this festival. Our tamariki will attend the final festival night later in the year and sing with other schools in our area.
We have completed our Multicultural dress rehearsal this week and are excited to perform to our whānau and friends on Thursday 17th September. Atawhai and Aroha will perform in the morning, then Mahi Tahi and Tuakana will perform in the afternoon. We kindly ask that you stay for all the performances in either of these blocks as our tamariki have been working towards showcasing their dances for an audience. We welcome you to take photos of your children after all the classes have performed as to minimise disruptions to the classes performing on stage.
We have had many International students join us this term. It has been exciting to see all the new friendships our tamariki have made, and we hope they keep in contact with us in the future. We wish them all the best for their future endeavours. Jonathan Jackson has come back from a successful trip to South Korea to promote our school and make connections with families that wish to come to New Zealand in the future.
Mathathon: Thank you all for your donations towards our Mathathon fundraiser. This week we have done our testing, and your tamariki should have received their test score by Friday 11th September. Next week we will have the prize draw, so keep an eye out on Hero for the prize winners. All our fundraising for this will go towards renovating the rest of our existing playground and creating an even better space to play, explore, and connect during breaks.
Last week we saw Grandparents or Special whānau day on Thursday 3 September. It was lovely to see our tamariki celebrate their learning with their whānau. We also welcomed new parents to our kura/school for morning tea. It was lovely to meet our new whānau and share the wonderful experiences our tamariki have at Edendale.
We competed in the Tournament of Minds competition at Diocesan School for Girls on Saturday 29 August with 2 groups of tamariki whose team names were Stevie the crazy creative elephant and Pookie Pakekos. They came first in social sciences and in the arts for this competition and are off to Wellington on Friday 11 September to compete in the finals. We wish them all the best for this day and hope they enjoy the experience.
Next week on Tuesday 15 September is our school tour for prospective whānau and tamariki. If you are interested, please contact the office to book in for the tour.
We value our home, kura/school partnership and are lucky to have a supportive and caring community. Thank you for all your support with the Mathathan and supporting our tamariki with your time during school events.

After-School Supervision Reminder
A reminder that all children remaining onsite between 3.00pm and 3.30pm must be actively supervised by an adult.
If your child is using the slides, their supervising adult must be at the slides with them.
Likewise, if children are using the playground, their supervising adult must be at the playground.
After-school play should be restricted to these two areas only. Children should not be playing elsewhere around the school grounds during this time.
This is important for the safety of all children and also allows our staff to complete their end-of-day responsibilities without being responsible for supervising children who have already been collected.
Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe and for your cooperation with these expectations.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Edendale community for all the support over the years. It’s been a fantastic few years being a part of our amazing school. I am going to miss seeing all your faces.
As I start to wind down for the next few weeks please be aware that as I rundown stock things will be removed from the menu.
A big thanks again from me.

What a few weeks it has been! We loved seeing our Edendale community come together for Quiz Night, and with a bake sale and our very first Saturday Market just around the corner, there’s still plenty happening before the end of term.
First, a huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Quiz Night such a brilliant one.
‘Once Upon an Edendale’ was a night filled with so much laughter, some questionable dancing, plenty of friendly competition and, most importantly, an incredible show of support for our school. To every parent, teacher and member of our community who bought a ticket, dressed up, bid on an auction, bought a raffle ticket or helped behind the scenes, thank you. We really couldn’t do these events without you.
We also want to give a very special thank you to our wonderful sponsors. To Abbey & Richard from Harcourts Cooper & Co, our Platinum Sponsor, thank you for once again getting behind our school so generously. We’re incredibly lucky to have local businesses who continue to show up for Edendale and help make nights like this possible.
And, of course, thank you to all of the businesses and individuals who donated prizes and auction items, and to everyone who gave their time to organise, set up, pack down and make the night happen. It really does take a village.
We hope everyone who joined us had as much fun as we did. We’re still recovering... and already dreaming up what we might do next year!
Before we get to our next event, there’s another very important Edendale tradition coming up. Bake sale!
Our next bake sale is being hosted by Rooms 4, 5 and 27 on Thursday the 17th of September, from 2.50pm to 3.15pm. All funds raised go back to the school, so bring along some cash, a container for your goodies and an appetite for something delicious.

Then, just two days later, Edendale will host its first ever Saturday Morning Market, on Saturday 19 September, from 9.00am to 12.00pm in the school hall.
We’d love this to be a relaxed Saturday morning for our wider community to come together, have a wander, find a treasure or two and enjoy spending some time at school outside of the usual weekday rush.
There’ll be stalls from Edendale families, school groups and our wider community, with pre-loved clothes, toys and books, crafts and handmade goods, plants, baking, gifts and more to discover. There’ll be live music too, so bring the whānau, invite your neighbours and come along to help make our very first market a special morning for Edendale.
One little practical reminder before you come: please bring cash. Stallholders will be managing their own payments and not everyone will have EFTPOS available.
So pop Saturday 19 September, 9.00am to 12.00pm in the calendar. We’d love to fill the school hall and quadrangle with families, friends and neighbours and give Edendale’s first Saturday Morning Market a brilliant start.
Thank you, as always, for supporting Friends of Edendale and the events that bring our school community together. Whether it’s dressing up for a big night out, buying a piece of cake at the school gate or spending a Saturday morning at the market, every bit of support makes a difference, and we’re so grateful to be part of such a generous community.

Auckland Transport
Auckland Transport has notified us of some upcoming road maintenance works that will be taking place on Kingsway Avenue and Mars Avenue, Sandringham.
Please find attached copies of the work notification letters for your information.
The works involve pavement repairs ahead of planned road resealing. They are currently scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday next week, however these dates may change if there are weather impacts, as the works are weather dependent.
Work hours will be between 7:00am and 7:00pm, with each work site expected to take one day to complete.
During the works, there will be:
- Temporary road closures with resident access maintained.
- Traffic management and detours in place.
- Reduced on-street parking near the work areas.
- Traffic controllers available to assist road users.
- Footpaths remaining open for pedestrian access
As the school is located nearby, we wanted to ensure you were aware of the works.
While Auckland Transport do not anticipate significant impacts to school operations, there may be some temporary changes to traffic movements and parking availability in the surrounding area during the works.
