Sports

At Edendale we believe that a healthy mind and body play a huge part in children’s learning. We encourage our tamariki to participate in organised programmes to develop physical skills, coordination, learn cooperation and determination as part of our Health and Physical Education curriculum. We also make time during our day to practise mindfulness across the school. Studies show there are huge benefits for everyone practising mindfulness, including increased focus, self-control, reducing anxiety and improving overall well-being.

Our house leaders support the running of our sports shed to allow our tamariki to experience playing sports with their peers outside of the classroom and during playtimes.

Throughout the year, our school works with several sporting organisations to give our tamariki coaching and lessons. Some of these include football, playball, swimming and wushu. We also have netball teams across years two to six who participate in the Auckland netball season held at Windmill Park.

Every year we hold an athletics day for both junior and senior students. Our junior event allows students to develop their skills in athletics. Our senior competition involves all of the standard events you might see at an athletics day (high jump, long jump, discus, shot put, relays and more). This allows us to select who will compete and represent Edendale at the inter-school athletics event.

At Edendale, we actively promote getting our tamariki outdoors, as  outdoor play is beneficial for improving mental health, physical health and overall well-being.

Our newly renovated school swimming pools allow children to build water confidence, safety and awareness skills. We also have many opportunities to have fun times in the pool, especially as they are heated.
