Disco Cancellation – 17 November

Thu Nov 17 12:25pm

Kia ora,

Edendale PTA is very sorry to have to announce that tonight’s school disco is cancelled, due to the met service forecasting heavy showers and possible thunderstorms – the safety of our tamariki is most important.

We are incredibly disappointed to have to make this decision.  We’ll work with the school to look for alternative options for a fun event for the children and share details over the coming days.

In the meantime, we have some fabulous cupcakes and baking that we don’t want to go to waste, so are holding a mini bake sale at school pick up today, please bring coins (and any baking you may have done!) with you.

The mini bake sale will be set up outside the ‘word wall’, next to the hall.

Garden to Table koha table – Thursday, 17 November

Wed Nov 16 11:31am

Disco – 17 November

Tue Nov 15 01:43pm

The Edendale Spooky Disco is 2 days away!  Please see this quick guide for all you need to know.

We would still love your help with baking and volunteering on the day, plus sponsorship for some of the costs – all volunteers and sponsors will go in a draw to win a 6 week gym membership at Health & Sports!

Please bring cash and your completed permission slips with you to the back gate, Shorwell Street entrance at 5.15pm (use form attached if needed).

Finally, watch out for a notice from the school on Thursday to confirm whether the disco is going ahead as it is outside on the astroturf this year, and we are hoping the rain holds off – if it is too wet we will have to unfortunately cancel.

Thanks,

Edendale PTA

Welcome back to Term 4 – gates open at 8 30am Monday 17th October

Fri Oct 14 07:30am

Welcome back to term 4 – gates open at 830 am on Monday 17th October [this coming Monday]

Kia ora koutou and welcome back to the new term. We hope that you have managed to have some downtime with your children over the last two weeks and that they are rejuvenated to return to school on Monday.

I was fortunate enough to spend a few days down at Ohope a place that I have only ever driven through. We spent most of the time walking up and down the 9km beach taking in the sea air and enjoying spectacular weather.

We are hoping that this term brings settled weather in Sandringham so that our tamariki can enjoy the newly renovated school pools that fingers crossed have had the technical issues sorted over the break. Chetan has been working hard this week with the installers to get them ready. Your child’s teacher will advise you of the timetabled days for swimming.

This is a busy term with a number of school trips occurring and the year 5/6 camp in the week of 5- 9 December. You will see requests for help from our Garden to Table [GTT] team as we get back to pre COVID operations of the program. If you can help, please let your child’s teacher know and if you can help but don’t have a child timetabled onto the program please email Kylie at kylie@edendale.school.nz

Some other initiatives we have been working on and that you should see this coming term include:

– the launch of our new Edendale Primary School website [launch set for the first day of term 4]
– Solar panels being installed on a number of roof profiles that should provide 50% of our electrical consumption
– initiating works for the next renovation that will begin immediately after the last day of term. This work includes the full renovation of the block containing Tuakana team and the adjoining space to the GTT kitchen, along with a wider entrance corridor adjacent to the office.
– The removal of the temporary [been here for years] prefabs that are rooms 30 and 31

Please keep an eye out for our fortnightly newsletters and updates around 2023. The first newsletter will be distributed on Thursday 27th October via the school App, Seesaw, and email.

Lastly, we welcome this term Neelam our new Receptionist, Catherine our Executive Officer, and Hannah a new learning assistant. Hannah is with us until the end of the year and joins us from Germany.

We look forward to seeing you all on Monday and take care over the weekend.

[nb: masks will still be available at the gate if wanted]

Stay well, stay safe, and be kind.

Ngā mihi

Edendale Reo-athon 2022 update

Edendale Reo-athon 2022 update

Tēnā koutou katoa,

We are in the final week of our whole school fundraiser – Reo-athon 2022. So far, we have raised $8602. It will conclude on Friday, 30th September. We still have a few days to get as many learners and their whānau on board to raise as much money as possible. As you all know, we rely on fundraising initiatives to run our special programmes like Garden to Table, Music, Visual arts, STEAM, and designing other exciting learning experiences for our ākonga. These programmes provide authentic and exciting learning experiences for our learners to become lifelong learners. Our community and our ākonga highly value all these programmes.

This week, our ākonga will share their pepeha with you on Seesaw. They are all working hard to learn their pepeha. Please support their efforts by helping them create a fundraising page and sharing their page with your families and friends.

Here are a few easy steps to follow

– Encourage your child/ren to learn their pepeha. If they need support with pronunciation, they can hear the pepeha recorded by one of our teachers. Please click on this link http://www.edendale.school.nz/edendale-reo-athon-2022.
– Create their fundraising page. Here is a link to our online fundraiser: https://edendalereoathon.raiseit.nz/hub.
– Share their fundraising page with your families and friends. Our online fundraiser makes sharing with your overseas families and friends easier. They can donate using their own currency.

Edendale Reo-athon 2022 update

Thu Sep 22 01:59pm

Tēnā koutou katoa,

We have one more week for our whole school fundraiser – Reo-athon 2022. Our Reo-athon will conclude on Friday, 30th September. Thank you all for your support in making our fundraising initiatives successful in the past (Mathathon 2020 and Spellathon 2021). We need your support this time, too, to make our Reo-athon successful. So far, we have raised $6000. It is not too late for you to support your child in their fundraising journey.

Here are a few easy steps to follow

The funds raised by this fundraiser will help run our music, visual arts, Garden to Table, and STEAM programmes which are highly valued by our tamariki and Edendale community. These programmes provide authentic learning opportunities to our learners/ākonga to develop our school values and the key competencies identified in the New Zealand Curriculum document.

The funds raised by our school community/whānau make a significant difference in enhancing the overall school environment and educational outcome for all our students/ākonga. As well as providing resources for our special programmes and school environment, our Reo-athon is an excellent opportunity for our ākonga to grow as life-long learners and discover more about their own capabilities.

COVID update 13/09/2022

Tue Sep 13 08:05am

Kia ora koutou.

The new long-term strategy for COVID-19

You’ll be aware that New Zealand will move to a new, long-term approach to COVID-19. These changes have been made based on public health advice and reflect high levels of immunity and declining case numbers across New Zealand.

This new approach will only result in changes to the way we operate.

The positive news is that household contacts of a person with COVID-19 do not need to isolate, but instead are asked to complete a RAT test each day, for five days. Therefore, ākonga who are household contacts but test negative and do not have COVID-19 symptoms should continue to attend. It is the best place for them to be so they can be engaged in their learning, and connected with their teachers, classmates, and friends.

Information on how to get RAT kits can be found here: Request a RAT– Ministry of Health https://requestrats.covid19.health.nz/?_ga=2.172757601.3975240.1662597008-1471031908.1652402260

Mask wearing is no longer required except if visiting the office for the remainder of this term.

Masks will be worn by some as a choice and we will support this fully. We will still have masks at the gate this term for those who’d like them and supplies in classrooms

We look forward to welcoming whānau back into our classrooms from the start of next term [i.e., in a few weeks after the holiday break]. We’d like the next couple of weeks to prepare for this big change for both children and staff.

All the other recommended public health measures will stay in place as we know they reduce the spread of infectious illnesses including COVID-19. These include ensuring our indoor spaces are well-ventilated, maintaining good hand hygiene, encouraging everyone to cough or sneeze into elbows, and, most importantly, staying home and getting tested if they have COVID-19 symptoms.

Thank you for your ongoing support in protecting our community.

Noho ora mai
